Introduction to After Effects

Definition

o Adobe After Effects is a 2.5D animation software used for creating animation, visual effects, and motion picture compositing.

oIt is used in the production of films, TV shows, and web videos.

o This software is utilized in the post-production phase and offers hundreds of effects to manipulate imagery, allowing for the combination of video and image layers into the same scene.

Motion Graphics Animation

Approach

o After Effects uses a different approach to create movement.

o Motion graphics animation involves manipulating vector and rasterized art to create and tell a story.

o Physical-based media, such as photographs and videography, can also be integrated.

Transforming Images

o The process involves transforming still images (graphic elements and photography) into moving images.

o Photoshop serves as a platform for compositing layers.

o All layers should be arranged and renamed appropriately for organization and ease of animation in After Effects.

Animating Layers

o After Effects is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing application.

o It allows the import of various elements such as images, videos, vectors, and more.

o Layer elements must be organized and synchronized with external software platforms like Photoshop and Illustrator.

o After Effects files do not embed media but link to it.

Practical 

W10 PRACTICAL: AFTER EFFECTS EXERCISE

We will use the composition provided to complete an animation exercise using Adobe After Effects.

To complete

1. Download the PSD composition below:

2. Import the W10_ANIMATE.psd into Adobe After Effects.

3. Create a composition setting 1080 px (Width) x 1920 px (Height), Duration 15 second

4. Create a keyframe animation to the layers using Position (P), Scale (S) & Masking path.

5. Render output: Quicktime (.MOV) or .MP4

6. Upload your exercise into your Youtube Channel.

7. Update your progress and video to your E-Portfolio blog.

AFTER EFFECTS EXERCISE

Before I started to practice, I chose to watch the demo video of Mr. Yusoff‘s class again, because I found that I still did not understand a lot of things.

Even though I practiced with Mr. Yusoff's demo video, it still took me an afternoon to complete my own practice.

PART 1: IDEA DEVELOPMENT

1. Write a biography about yourself

 

INTRO	My name is Liu Chengrui, from China, and I am currently studying creative media at Taylor University. I am outgoing and like to travel to various places with my friends
PARAGRAPH 1	Do you have a dream? What is it? My dream is more ordinary, is plain and happy life.
PARAGRAPH 2	How do you achieve your own dreams? I am not very good at standing in the moment and making some assumptions about the future, so I may just live a full and positive day and slowly realize my dream.
SUMMARY	As for my brief description, I mainly speak from the perspective of dream, so for this assignment, I will add it to my dream part, so now I want to complete this assignment better.

2. Write a statement about your work

 

INTRO	What is your job? My work this time is to complete a personal biography according to the requirements, mainly including who I am and my interests.
PARAGRAPH 1	Please elaborate on your understanding of your job. For this work, I plan to start from my own personality and complete it in a way that can fully express a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards life.
PARAGRAPH 2	What would you rather people find out about your work? I want to use my own way to tell people that we can actually live every day with an optimistic and enthusiastic attitude to life.
SUMMARY	Dream and life are intertwined in everyone's heart, there is a saying that the dream is very beautiful, the reality is very cruel, and I think even if there are many unsatisfactory life, the dream is difficult to achieve, but we should still maintain love, go to the mountains and seas, there is always a day to arrive.

This week, we got our hands on a new software, AE, and used it to complete a series of exercises, in my opinion, it seems to be more difficult than PS, because there are many aspects to consider, such as frame rate and export issues, but I am confident.

Eventually, Mr. Yusoff suggested that I could continue with my sketch two.
