Project 2
week7
This week, we need to move on to the sketching stage of the interior of the
building.
Because my building was intended to be designed as a place specifically for
internal gatherings and sacrifices within the ethnic group, I made the
following sketches.
The overall shape of the interior is modeled after that of a tent and is
roughly a quadrangular pyramid.
Regarding my internal structure, Mr. kannan suggested that I don't need
to make it too complicated at this stage. I should simplify it and also
try to draw it from different angles. Add some light and shadow.
This week, I continued to refine the interior of my building, including
more diverse interior perspectives, compositions, and value studies.

week10
This week, I began to complete the atmosphere map of my
interior landscape.
For these atmosphere pictures, I chose to explore them
with different colors. I tend to prefer a dim color, but
I also made some other colors.

Perhaps you can add some torches or oil lamps inside your building and
place them on top of your pillars. Secondly, your pillars should be
slightly inclined to support the fabric of the tents.
REFLECTION
Experience
During the process of doing this environmental design project, I
gradually created the space step by step, from sketches, structures,
different angles, to the later lighting and atmosphere colors. The
entire process has enabled me to have a clearer understanding of the
basic steps of environmental design. I have also learned that one
should first determine the major forms and functions, and then
gradually add details, rather than drawing too complicates from the
very beginning. The attempt at ambient colors also made me realize
that different color combinations can bring about completely different
emotions.
Observation
By drawing Interiors from different angles, I have observed that my
understanding of spatial structure is better than before, no longer just
remaining at the conceptual level of planes. I also found that my
supervisor's feedback, such as "Simplify the structure first", "Where does
the lighting come from", "the way the columns are supported", etc., was of
great help to me. These made me realize that there were many things I
hadn't seriously considered in the past, such as the direction of the
light source and the rationality of the materials, etc.
Findings
This project made me realize that environmental design is not merely
about drawing a good-looking picture, but also about taking into account
functionality, structure, light and shadow, and atmosphere
simultaneously. I also realized that I had some obvious difficulties: I
tended to make the structure too complicated and failed to grasp the key
points. The light and shadow are not stable enough, and I often don't
know how to place the main light source.
The atmosphere and color scheme may look good but not necessarily
reasonable, and they need to be better combined with the spatial logic.
Overall, this project has enabled me to have a clearer understanding of
the way of thinking in environmental design and also to know what I need
to strengthen next.
