Final Reflections
What have I learnt in this module?
In the module of Design Principles GCD60804, I not only learned
the basic knowledge of design principles, such as contrast,
balance, composition, visual hierarchy, etc., but also improved my
observation and creativity by doing many practical exercises. I
learned how to analyze the visual elements in art works, and then
use these elements to enrich my design language. In addition, I
began to pay more attention to the idea and sketch stage, and
learned that a good design often requires thoughtful conceptual
support.
What did I enjoy the most?
My favorite is the visual analysis assignment because it gives me
the chance to delve into great works of art and find inspiration
from them. During this process, I not only gained a deeper
understanding of design principles, but also learned how to
integrate elements of different styles into my own creations.
Moreover, the whole module is very practical, and each task allows
me to really explore with my hands, not just stay in theory. The
sense of accomplishment I get when I see my finished work is
especially strong, especially when it clearly demonstrates the
design principles I've learned.
What did I not enjoy the most?
What I don't like is the early exploration phase, especially when
it comes to finding the right reference works and determining the
design direction. Sometimes, faced with a lot of references, I
feel lost and don't know how to choose the most appropriate source
of inspiration. In addition, while doing the task, although I
understand the design principles, I still encounter challenges in
practical application, such as how to make the design meet the
theoretical requirements while maintaining personal style.
Sometimes the revision process is very repetitive, and it can
hinder progress.
What have I learnt about myself through this module?
Through this module, I found that I have advantages in analysis
and conception, and can quickly understand and disassemble the
visual language of excellent works, and then use it in my design.
At the same time, I also realize that I still need to improve my
execution and detail handling, especially when turning the concept
into the final design, which often needs to be adjusted
repeatedly. I also found that I have some intuitive advantages in
color matching and composition design, but I need more experience
in practice to strengthen these abilities.
What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
What has changed is that my understanding of design principles has
become more systematic. I no longer just design by feeling, but
can more consciously use the principles of contrast, balance,
composition and so on. At the same time, the way I look at works
of art has changed, and I can analyze their visual layers,
combinations of elements and expressions more deeply.
What has not changed is that my creative style is still being
explored, and although I have learned a lot of design techniques,
I have not yet developed a particularly distinct personal style.
In addition, I am still a bit of a perfectionist in the design
process, often spending too much time on details, sometimes
affecting the overall progress.
What are my aspirations?
I hope that in the future design study, I can apply the design
principles I have learned more confidently and gradually form my
own creative style. At the same time, I also hope to improve my
execution ability to make the creative process more smooth and
efficient. In addition, I also hope to have the opportunity to
contact more diverse design cases, and constantly broaden my
horizon, so that my works not only conform to the design
principles, but also have stronger personal characteristics and
creative expression.
