Project 1:Instructable Poster
In this project, we need to watch specific YouTube videos about food preparation and create process posters based on the content of the videos. The video I chose is "Grandpa Cicci Makes Cheesy Pasta Pillows", and the link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcMz03EoFzw.

First of all, I looked for some reference pictures to learn the basic layout of posters and try to draw inspiration from them.

After watching the video, I decided to break it down into several parts for production. For this purpose, I chose to use brief text to summarize the production steps.

Fig1.2 Main steps

After completing the preliminary preparations, I began to use Procreate to create my poster. I chose to complete it all by hand. The first step was to draw the outer outlines of the main steps and content, which made it easier to color them later.

The second step was to complete the basic outline. After that, I adjusted the sequence of the steps and did a rough coloring.

The third step is to complete the general coloring, and then I start to refine the details and colors of each object, such as adding shadows and highlights, to make each object look more exquisite.

Fig1.5 Add shadows and details

After completing these main elements, I began to work on my background. For the background design, I referred to the material of the pages in my paper notebook and created a sense of a faded recipe. At the same time, the spilled sauce is also added. This is done not only to enrich the background, but mainly to serve as a visual guide. The shape of the sauce spill exactly matches the sequence of the food preparation process.

Fig1.8 Add background details (yellowed recipes)

Although I did all these things, the final result didn't look too good. I think the main reason is that there was too much space left below. So I decided to draw a completed picture of the food and list the main ingredients used, which would enrich the content of the poster.

After completing these tasks, I arranged the text descriptions according to the main steps listed earlier. I chose to use some dark brown fonts because this color is more noticeable but not too harsh.

Finally, I added the main title "Cheesy Pasta Pillows", and drew a cheese pattern after the word "Cheesy". At the same time, I depicted the parsley used as an embellishment for this dish below the title, which can be regarded as a connection with the food preparation process.

After that, I showed the first version of the poster to Mr. Kannan. He immediately approved my poster, but there were some issues that needed to be corrected. Firstly, a good poster should leave sufficient space. Secondly, the background color could be lighter, which would make the main content clearer. The description in step five is too long. It is suggested to have one picture for each paragraph of text. Finally, it is possible to add an additional section that lists the ingredients used.

After listening to the Mr.kannan's suggestions, I made the necessary revisions.

This version of the poster has also changed the direction of the title and the positions of some steps. Mr.kannan believes that this arrangement is more conducive to the smooth reading of the information compared to the previous one. Therefore, in order to achieve this idea, I also changed the direction of the spilled sauce in the background. Make sure that the reading order follows the direction of the sauce.

I suggest choosing a video that includes the raw materials. This will enable you to have a clearer understanding of the sources used in the production.

Reflection
Experience
In this project, I believe the most valuable experience I gained was how to make the poster look more harmonious. The layout of the first version of the poster was too crowded, resulting in a poor visual effect in the end. The main reason was that there was too little space reserved, giving people a feeling of being crowded. Therefore, in future poster production related to this, I will pay more attention to this issue.

Observation
When creating the poster, I observed that the description of the text doesn't need to be overly detailed. Instead, it should be appropriate. As long as it enables others to understand the content you want to convey, that's fine. Because initially, I tended to explain each step clearly in the text. This actually made my poster look rather complicated. Later, I adopted Mr. Kannan's suggestion and changed to a method of using a short sentence along with an image, which could bring a better visual effect.

Findings
During the process of creating this poster, I realized that organizing the video content into clear visual information was the most crucial part of the entire project. When I was initially organizing the steps of preparing food, I collected a lot of relevant information. However, if it was simply put together, it would appear very messy and it would be difficult for everyone to quickly understand the key points of food preparation. Therefore, during the production process, I needed to constantly filter and organize the information, extract the most important content, and present it in a clearer way. Through this process, I gradually realized that information design is not only visual design, but more importantly, how to select, organize and simplify information.
